Relaxing Kimono Dyeing Video

Long time, no post! I've been busy at work, but going back through my info to help someone out with some questions, I ran across this video again and wanted to share it here.

It's a lovely start-to-finish video (about ten minutes) of the traditional yuzen paste-resist process, one of the ways kimono are dyed and decorated. Get something warm to drink, relax and watch all of the incredible work that goes into making a classic yuzen kimono!

  3. I came to your blog looking for information on seasonal motifs for kimono. I read the wonderful translations for March to July, but I couldn't seem to find the text-only translations for the other months. Could you tell me where to find them? Thank you so much!

  4. I couldn't find a contact email so I thought I'd post my question here. I was gifted as a teenager with two kimono. One from an older woman, in beautiful pastel colors, unlined along with obi, cord, shoes, tabi, a support piece for keeping the front on the obi smooth, a roll for shaping the obi in back, and a a lovely scarf for tucking into the obi. I know that's not all the pieces needed for actual wear but I never wear it anyway. Then I have another unlined kimono and Obi that has a distinktly Autumn motif that I just love that belonged to another friend when she was young. The first one was one of those, giving you the shirt of their back, two lovely older woman who came to visit my other friend each gave me parts of their outfits they had brought, one her kimono, the other her Obi ect. Anyway, enough rambling over happy memories, 😊. I just found your amazing blog, it's like catnip for someone like me who collects traditional outfits from around the world. My Father was born in Japan and I have good friends there so it has a special place in my heart. Currently I'm displaying my first kimono on a bamboo pole I cut from a local stand with a string attached in such a way as to support the collar. But with your wide amount of research and experience I thought you might have some suggestions on displaying Kimono and Obi. I'd love to see a whole blog post on it! And do you have a specific post that features Kimono designers? How they go about the whole process from the artist to sourcing fabric and dye to the final product? I'd love to be directed to it if you do. I'm slowly reading through all your past posts in the meantime. Thank you! Jenn in Oklahoma
